Our client is seeking a Family Advocate Team Leader who will supervise a team of Family Advocates and report directly to the Shelter Program Manager. Teams will build relationships with adult family members, thoroughly assessing their barriers and strengths to obtain housing and stability, collaborating with each family to remove barriers to housing, searching for housing, and advocating for families. The Team Leader will play a key role in assisting the agency in meeting specific housing goals to satisfy our funding source requirements.


  • Ensure families served are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain a caseload and complete all Family Advocate tasks.
  • Participate in hiring, create collaborate and positive team dynamics, role model Family Advocate tasks, and provide weekly supervision to team.
  • Review and assign new families to Family Advocates and stay informed of any pertinent issues pertaining to individual family cases
  • Contribute to building and maintaining a positive, supportive work environment that is consistent with values.
  • Maintain effective working relationships to ensure proper delivery of services and safe settings for families. This includes effective communication and collaboration internally and with outside agencies.
  • Ensure systems and procedures are followed according to funder standards.
  • Communicate all family crises and staff changes to the Program Manager immediately.
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained for staff, residents, and units.
  • Work closely with the Residential Supervisor to assist families in developing positive tenancy skills.
  • Manage crises as they arise and other duties as assigned.
  • Partake in rotating on-call schedule.
  • Support agency by volunteering for agency events.
  • A demonstrated record of working effectively with families and colleagues while maintaining boundaries and empathically enforcing rules. Knowledge of motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, problem solving and mediation skills. Ability to remain calm and responsive during crisis.
  • Must have a bachelor’ s degree.
  • Must have two years case management or a combination of advanced education and human service experience, or be in the field a minimum of three years.
  • Prior leadership and/or supervision experience strongly preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel in the Greater Boston area and commute families to critical housing appointments when necessary
  • Must be willing to work 40 hours per week, and adapt schedule to meet the needs of families.
